The Story Behind
Château la Canorgue is a romantic, sun-bathed estate perched near Bonnieux in Provence’s Luberon valley. Its origins trace back to a Roman villa, resting atop ancient underground water channels that still nourish the vineyards today.
Owned by the Margan family for five generations, the estate was transformed during the 1970s into one of the earliest organic wineries in Luberon. Nathalie Margan now continues the legacy, crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir—its stones, slopes, and Mediterranean light.
The château gained broader fame by starring as “Château La Siroque” in the film A Good Year, attracting visitors and artists drawn to its cinematic charm and timeless Provençal beauty.
Today, it remains a working winery surrounded by terraced vineyards, olive groves, and the soft hills of Provence—an idyllic, living canvas for art, wine lovers, and storytellers alike.

A Word from Alex
The idea to draw this villa came to me after yet another rewatch—I’ve honestly lost count—of the wonderful film A Good Year. It’s such an atmospheric and cozy movie by Ridley Scott, with a brilliant performance by Russell Crowe. The soundtrack is equally beautiful, and I’ve shared it below for you to enjoy.
If you haven’t seen the film yet, I recommend watching it first. Let yourself soak up its warmth and charm—you’ll find that drawing this villa becomes an even more inspiring and joyful experience afterward.
